Goals

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted at the United Nations in 2015 and will provide guidance for development policies around the world for 15 years. It includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 specific targets. Cultural aspects play a pivotal role for the 2030 Agenda to be successful – as the examples in this database demonstrate, culture can be linked to most development themes.

Commitments

Culture 21 Actions is a key guiding document on culture and cities. It highlights the interdependent relationship between people, culture and sustainable development. Very practical and useful, it promotes 9 commitments (or 'themes') and 100 actions. It is being used by cities all over the world.

Keywords

The Committee on Culture of UCLG elaborated a list of keywords which can be used to describe, classify and define good practices in the local implementation of the Agenda 21 for culture and Culture 21 Actions. This list includes 75 keywords, addressing all areas of culture, cultural policies and sustainable cities.
